The Alchemy of Light: From the Red Lamp to AI Precision
My journey into the world of imagery began more than 35 years ago. Long before digital cameras existed, my father would spend hours inside our bathroom turned into a darkroom under the soft glow of a red lamp. Watching faint monochrome outlines slowly emerge on pristine white paper submerged in chemical developer felt like pure alchemy.
When digital technology arrived, I embraced it immediately — though early video left much to be desired. That quest for visual fidelity led me to continuously master the most capable sensors and optics in the industry.
During school, a parallel fascination took hold: pyrotechnics, the explosive science of fire and color. Later came software engineering, automation, and the internet. Merging IT and pyrotechnics unlocked an unmatched synergy: capturing the raw energy of fire with mathematical precision and broadcasting it globally.
Filming fireworks is among the most demanding disciplines in cinematography. It requires accounting for extreme dynamic range, atmospheric humidity, smoke dissipation, high-pressure acoustics, and sub-millisecond cue timing. Today, this lifelong journey is elevated by artificial intelligence — from intelligent upscaling and dynamic smoke suppression to automated 3D packaging pipelines.
